![]() ![]() ![]() Sanagi doesn't want a bodyguard, especially one so annoying and unnecessarily destructive as the overly enthusiastic Shugomaru, whose methods, while pure, cause more harm than good - even to Sanagi herself. Protect Me, Shugomaru by Daiki Ihara follows the eponymous bodyguard as he tries to protect the heir to the Ojo Conglomerate Miss Sanagi from the assassin known as Skull. The problem isn't that the first chapter fell flat, but that Shonen Jump axed far more thrilling series to clear the way, despite already publishing similar titles that either showed more promise much earlier or are equally poor. While Protect Me, Shugomaru's premise doesn't necessarily bar it from success, the first chapter of Shonen Jump's new series makes its limitations very clear, and with the magazine's sales falling to the lowest they've been in half a century, that speaks to a far larger problem.
